A delegation visit focused on structural change, innovation, and transatlantic exchange
The German American Chamber of Commerce Pittsburgh (GACC PIT) had the honor of welcoming a delegation from Duisburg, Germany. The goal of the visit was to gain valuable insights into Pittsburgh’s successful transformation from a traditional industrial center into a hub for innovation and technology. The exchange aimed to identify proven strategies that could support sustainable economic development in Duisburg.
Program Highlights:
Day 1:
Meetings with representatives of the Allegheny Conference and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission. Rich Fitzgerald and Bill Flanagan shared their perspectives on the region’s economic transition and development strategy.
Day 2:
Site visits to the Robotics Factory, the University of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor. The day concluded with a reception and concert by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Day 3:
Brunch and presentations at the Teutonia Männerchor, a guided city tour with former Mayor Tom Murphy, and an energy roundtable discussion at the Energy Innovation Center focusing on sustainable energy policy.
Day 4:
Final discussions with the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance and County Executive Sara Innamorato on regional economic strategy and innovation initiatives.
