Overview
The Sales Engineer has fundamental skills in manufacturing processes and production management to give them the technical background they need to pitch a sale or convince buyers with their problem-solving strategy with technical issues.
With a holistic skill set of business administration with an emphasis on marketing/sales and the technical understanding of the product, a sales engineer forms a bridge between the customer and the engineering or R&D department of a company as they become experts about customer requirements and relations and can determine how products and services could be modified to suit those needs.
Job Profil
Sales Engineer Apprentices will work as Inside / Outside Sales Managers, Customer Relation Specialists or Technical Sales Representatives.
Tasks of a Sales Engineer include:
- Identify and contact existing and new clients with sales potential
- Client needs analysis that will support the preparation of the customer visit or initial call
- Develop & prepare customer focused sales pitches
- Demonstrates communication skills, active listening skills
- Presents & represents the company, brand, product and a solution to the client appropriately
- Demonstrates strategies such as: follow-up, cross-selling, up-selling techniques
- Confers with customers & engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine system requirements
- Collaborates with sales teams to understand customer requirements
- Provides sales support
- Plans and modifies products to meet customer needs
- Help clients solve problems with installed equipment
- Helps in researching and developing new products
- Demonstrates ability to manage inventory, estimates demand for products and services and schedules orders
- Handles customer complaints
Curriculum
The coursework will be an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and a Sales Engineer Certification.
Coursework includes:
- Business 101 & Business Communcation
- Micro- and Macro Economics
- Financial and Managerial Accounting
- Intro to Human Resources
- Production Management
- Sales and Marketing
- Business Law
- Technical Electives (e.g. CAD, Robotics, PLCs, etc.)
Upon successful completion the Apprentice will receive the following industry-recognized credentials and certifications:
- Journeyworker Papers (Dept. of Labor & Industry)
- College Certificate for Sales Engineering
- Associate's Degree in Business Administraion
- German Apprenticeship Certificate (DiHK) as Industriekauffrau /-mann
